Our annual Fill-A-Backpack Drive begins on July 1!
At the Springfield Rescue Mission, we want children in need to start the school year off right! Unfortunately, many of the families of these children do not have the resources for proper supplies. For children in need, something as simple as a new backpack can build their confidence and self-esteem. Your donations will help the children of families visiting our Give Away Center feel prepared and confident when starting this new school year.
We are currently accepting filled backpacks with much-needed school supplies.
We’ve created online shopping registry on Amazon for your convenience. Click the link to access the registry to select items of your own choosing. If you’d like to mail in your donation through Amazon, we have a suggested shopping list. Visit the online retailer, purchase items you’d like and have it shipped directly to us!

Has the Fill-A-Backpack Drive changed due to COVID-19?
Covid-19 has not effected our Backpack Drive. We will accept donations of filled backpacks at our 10 Mill Street, Springfield facility, Monday through Sunday, 8am to 6pm.
Do I need to purchase every item on the list?
While we’d appreciate if each donation contained a backpack full of all items a student needs, we also welcome smaller donations – whatever you are comfortable donating.
When do you need them by?
While we would appreciate donations by August 8th to prepare for our Give Away Center distribution, we will gladly accept donations through the end of August.
I love to shop in person. Can I still do that?
We can accommodate donations at our 10 Mill Street facility, or if you’d prefer “no-contact” drop-off, donations can be left at a drop-off location at our main entrance, Monday through Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Our group would like to coordinate a large drive. Is there anything special we need to know?
Please contact Georgia Briggs in our Donor Office at (413) 732-0808, Ext. 223 or email at email@example.com to receive an acknowledgement letter for your donation that can be used for tax purposes.
